Halloween is the favorite holiday in our house and we go all out for it. Every year my boyfriend likes to dress up as a classic horror movie character. It is like paying tribute to a movie genre he loves. And if the same holds true for you then here are a few tips to make your own Invisible Man Costume!

Since classic horror character costumes aren’t really popular in all big box stores at Halloween time we often have to piece together our costume ideas and get really creative. We’ve done Dracula, the Wolfman, and the Mummy, just to name a few.

Since we do this every year we have started to run low on classic character ideas, but last year we came up with a great costume idea for the Invisible Man. Now you are saying to yourself “How do you dress up as the Invisible Man? Where do you buy an Invisible Man Costume?” which is a good point because after all isn’t he invisible, and you are not supposed to see him.

In fact the whole idea of an Invisible Man is great for a movie, because there is no costume, just pure air, but in real life it makes it hard to pin down just exactly how to show something that isn’t supposed to be seen. That is why a missing man costume makes a great and clever idea for a Halloween costume. And here are a few ideas to make your own Invisible Man costume at home.

Anyone who has seen the movie will know what you are supposed to be right away. Since I had only seen this movie once a long time ago I had to remember back and I realized that all I did remember was that the Invisible Man costume was a simple trench coat, hat and sunglasses.

As far as “Mr. Invisible” costumes go this I feel is the standard. But if you were wearing just that then what makes you the Invisible Man and not a flasher? Well, then you have to bandage yourself up. Because in the movie when the Invisible Man wants to be seen he has to cover himself completely so you can see the outline of his body.

A floating trench coat and hat and sunglasses is pretty scary and makes you think more of a ghost, but once you add the wrapped body element you get a more human character. Think of it as like a mummy costume, and then you put on your Invisible Man Costume accessories and voila you have just made an instant classic Invisible Man Halloween costume.

For mummy wrappings you can use gauze (which can get expensive) or white crepe paper (which is cheaper but can be really delicate and may require more wrapping). And if you are on a real budget you can always use toilet paper. Make sure you wrap all skin that shows though for a truly Invisible Man look.

Now that you see everything you need to make this Invisible Man Halloween Costume – it really is a more cost effective costume idea all around. I hope you have fun making your own Invisible Man costume this Halloween season! But if you change your mind you can always buy an Invisible Man Costume here.
